Cazuru, a senator from Brazil's Goias state, confirmed the report yesterday (2nd) at a plenary session of the Senate. He said he had explained his concerns to the federal police in the form of letters and encouraged others to sign them at the meeting.
During the meeting, Kajuru explained about Textor's allegations. Textor claimed that five players from the Sao Paulo Football Club received bribes from Palemiras in connection with the Brazilian Championship Series A match, in which Palemiras beat Sao Paulo 5-0. He also claimed that there was evidence to support this.
Kazuru added that a month ago Textor said he had a transcript of the referee who had been taking bribes.
Kazuru said he sent the claim to Federal Police Commissioner Andrei Rodriguez and asked federal police to subpoena Textor within 24 hours. The senator also asked Textor to bring all available evidence and records to support his claim.
"Because for me, if he doesn't bring evidence and recordings, he'll have to be arrested here tomorrow - cell and handcuffs," Cajuru explained during the meeting. "Because this is not just anything, people, Brazilian soccer, it's very irresponsible, because this is the biggest passion of the country."
He said that if Textor's claims were true, he should be "clapped" and "respected." "But if they are lies, he should be deported from Brazil, arrested, and never come back into this country because he sees this citizen's irresponsibility."
